Rebuilding LCC Means Investing in Both the Plants and the People

There is a lot of activity going on across the Libyan Cement Company at the moment. Some of this is very technical, such as getting production equipment up and running again. Other changes are much simpler, but can have just as much impact on the people who come to work every day.

At Hawari 2 we have achieved another important milestone in the rehabilitation of the production line. The electrical transformer of the plant has been prepared for energization following inspections and testing by the plant’s Emergency and Safety Team and electrical maintenance engineers and technicians. Before the energization process, all connections, circuits and related equipment were checked to ensure the system was ready and the work could be carried out safely.

Recently contractor workers were moved to new accommodation at the factory site. Bringing them closer might appear to be a rather minor change compared to rehabilitating an entire production line, but nevertheless it does make their daily routine safer, easier and more comfortable.

The company has also settled its outstanding financial dues, including the payment due to Al-Waha Insurance Company for employees’ medical insurance. This helps in ensuring that employees and their families continue to have access to healthcare services. We want to see Hawari 2 back in production and our facilities improved, but we also have a responsibility to the people who make that possible.

LCC has been involved in the Libyan cement industry for many years and has much to build on. It also means bringing equipment back into service, improving older facilities and creating better conditions for the workforce to make the company stronger.

The changes do not always happen in the same way. Sometimes it’s a transformer getting ready to be energized. Sometimes it’s providing a safer place to stay for workers. Both are important, because rebuilding a company the right way means taking care of the whole operation, including the people who are behind it.
