After 13 Years, Hawari’s Second Production Line Is Coming Back To Life

Some Of The Most Important Work Happens Before The Equipment Arrives

The line has been out of service for more than a decade and its restoration has required a long process of rehabilitation, preparation and technical work. A lot of that work ended up being done by people already at LCC and professionals outside of Libya.

These last few weeks have been particularly important. It was essential for the team to ensure the equipment was actually ready before the line could start running again. In addition to the testing, a new clinker cooler was commissioned, its control system was programmed and adjusted and mechanical checks were performed.

Safety was equally important throughout rehabilitation. The safety inspectors worked closely with the maintenance and production teams and the implementation period was completed without any workplace injuries being recorded.

And the return of the line is important beyond the plant itself. When back in operation, it will give LCC more capacity to produce cement locally and respond to demand from construction and reconstruction projects around Libya.

We’ve also been trying to pay attention to the people behind that production. Recently, LCC has provided its employees with medical insurance coverage through Al Waha Insurance Company, giving them access to healthcare services in accordance with the agreed coverage.

There is more work to do before we can declare the second line is back to full. You have to watch the gear carefully, and there is some remaining technical work to be done. And the line needs time to come back right after being still for so many years.

It’s been 13 years since Hawari’s second line and credit goes to those who worked to bring it back.
