Every Part Of The Project Has Its Own Role
A project like this isn't built through one major achievement. It's built through hundreds of smaller steps coming together over time. One day it's concrete being poured, the next it's steel installation, and then it's the arrival of equipment that allows the work to keep moving.
That was the way it was with the recent arrival of the Top Gas Scrubber. It is one of the major equipment that will be installed as part of the reduction furnace of the plant. It will be used to cool and clean process gases so they can be re-used, once it’s running, making the steel-making process more efficient. Moving such large equipment is no mean feat, so it’s great to see it arrive safely on site as another important step in the project.
Work continues apace elsewhere on site. You'll see crews putting in concrete foundations for the electrical infrastructure that will power the plant in the future 220 kV substation. Oxygen tanks have also been delivered and work is going on on the utility systems.
Work is also underway in a number of other areas of the complex. Steel structure raised is underway in the Reformer Area and Gas Compressor Building in the Reduction Area. Piling and concrete work are underway at the Cooling Tower and masonry work is taking place at the services building. You look everywhere and you can see that progress isn’t happening in one place. Different teams work on different parts of the project but the tasks all contribute to the same goal.
Latest figures show steady progress with concrete works, backfilling and structural steel installation but the numbers only tell part of the story. Behind them are the engineers, technicians, contractors and workers who are on site every day and who make sure each stage is done properly before the next one begins.
Updates like this remind me that these kinds of big projects are done by consistency, not by speed. We’re part of the bigger picture. Every delivery, every foundation, every new building. It is encouraging to see the Benghazi steel complex gradually taking shape and becoming more visible by the week as we are making steady progress, he said.
