Building the Future, One Step at a Time

A lot has been going on all over the Benghazi Steel Complex and it’s great to see how much the site continues to grow and take shape . What was mostly groundwork in an empty area not so long ago, is now starting to look like a project you can actually see, each stage that is completed gets us a little closer to what was just an idea.
The one area that real progress has been made is in foundation work. Deep piling is now very close to being completed with most of the planned piles already in place including the eight completed in the Cooling Tower area. If the foundations are built correctly, then everything else has something solid to be built on.
There’s also work underway in several other areas. Foundation work of CDRI Passivation Silos has been completed and concrete work is in progress at 220kV substation, Main Control Room, Oxygen Reduction Building, Gas Treatment Area and Duct Bridge.
The steel skeleton is becoming more exposed. So far more than 4,900 tonnes of structural steel is now in place, with a further 126 tonnes added during the latest progress updates from the field. At the same time, work continues in the Reformer Area, the Utility Compressor Room and the warehouse facilities where progress is becoming more visible week after week.
The real stand out is the teamwork, engineers, contractors and site teams are working across different parts of the project, pouring concrete, installing steel and preparing utility systems, but everyone is working towards the same goal.
