Building a Strong Foundation
Work at our Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) project in Benghazi has reached another important stage with the start of deep foundation casting at the Ras Al-Mangar site. It's something we've been working towards for quite some time, after months of planning, engineering and preparing the site. Seeing this part of the project begin is an important step for everyone involved.
Most of the work is focused on the foundations and the supporting infrastructure, once it is completed, construction can move on to the project's main industrial buildings and operational facilities. Foundation work isn't always the most exciting part of a project to look at, but it's the part that everything else depends on, so taking the time to get it right now will make a difference as the project continues to grow. This project is being developed through the partnership between SULB Libya and Tosyali and once completed it's expected to become one of the largest industrial developments in Libya. Construction activity, future industrial production and new employment opportunities all have the potential to make a positive contribution to Libya's industrial sector.
The site is becoming busier every day as more people step on the project's grounds and more equipment is used. Most of what's happening is still below ground, but that's how projects like this begin. Before the buildings go up, there's a lot of work that has to happen first.
There's still a long way to go and that's expected with a project of this size, as every stage builds on the one before it.
